Week 7

Been a crazy week.  Sorry it took so long to get the page up.  Updates upcoming.

WOW!!  20-7 (74%) this week!  Well done.  The group feasted on the fraudulent Wolverines.  Sparty at +5 was easy pickings.  Army over Tulane and OSU over U La La were also sharp picks.

Renegade is off to an incredible 13-5 record (72.2%).  Will this be a runaway or will someone challenge our front runner?

I guess week 7 is going to be “Back Down to Earth” week, if not for some high flying college teams it most certainly will be for me.

Wisconsin (+6.5) v. Ohio State:
Coach Sweater Vest & the Suck-eyes are #1, but they travel into the Badger’s Den at Camp Randall and at night no less …Can another underdog bring down a #1 two weeks running?

NC State (-6.5) v. ECU:
The Wolf Pack has got back on track and dusted-off the Fudge by taking care of BC last week. ECU can be tough at home and NC State needs to stay focused and guard against a letdown.

So. Miss (-16.5) v. Memphis:
Not exactly the meeting of two powerhouses. The Golden Eagles got a golden shower courtesy of the Butt Pirates last week. The game against Memphis gives them a “chance” to make amends.

This week, I head to the craggy peaks and wide-open skies of the American West and for this year’s edition of Scotty B’s Mountain West Madness. With two teams in the Top 25, this conference offers the potential for some further BSC busting.

Utah (-20) v. Wyoming

In their last home game, the Cowboys showed some toughness, holding off Air Force’s potent offensive attack—and, thus, on to a lead—until the fourth quarter, when they lost, 20-14. As respectable as that outcome may seem, the fact of the matter is that the Cowboys are atrocious on defense. On average, opponents gain 471 yard per game on the Cowboys, including about 250 yards of rushing yardage. With 12.5 points per game, scoring is not Wyoming’s strong suit either. On offense, the Utes are a machine, running up big yards in the air (250 ypg) and on the ground (189 ypg) and scoring more than 49 points per game. Looking to go 6-0 and knocking on the door of the Top Ten, I don’t expect the Utes to lose focus unless there is a surprise cattle stampede.

TCU (-28) v. BYU

The Horned Frogs seem to be the groove coming into Week 7. They have a 5-0 record, can boast of back-to-back shut outs, and, this week, are ranked number 5 in the nation. TCU’s defense remains a most formidable—if not outright ferocious—unit, allowing only 10.3 points per game. The offense is clicking with QB Andy Dalton putting up impressive numbers—e.g., 1,177 passing yards and nine TDs and 202 ypg—and a ground attack that posts almost 280 yards a game. BYU halted their slide last week against San Diego State, turning in an especially impressive performance on defense and finally getting its running game in gear. Up against what the Horned Frogs have been bringing to the field every week—hard-nosed defense, an efficient offense, and an expectation of victory—however, the Cougars probably are in for a very rough day in Forth Worth.

Air Force (-4) v. San Diego State

This could be an exciting game, even absent any BCS implications (at least for now). Air Force leads the nation in rushing, ringing up an average of 352 yards per game. On the other side of the ball, Air Force’s pass defense is ranked number eight in the nation. Their passing game is weak, however, ranked 115th in the nation. Also, this season, the Aztecs’ head coach Brady Hoke has had his team on the mend. The offense is more balanced, and the defense is more aggressive and physical. In terms of points scored per game, the two teams are evenly matched at 34 points. Good news for Air Force is that a lackluster BYU was able to close down the Aztecs’ running game and mount a strong ground attack against them last week. If the Falcons did their homework, therefore, this could be a big game for the boys from The Springs.
