2009 Road Warriors Week 1

Greetings!!

Same deal as last season. Pick three games each week with the spreads. Winner may get something more than an "atta boy" at the end of the season.

Good Luck!

Back in Action!!

LSU -17 @ UDub

Let the beatings begin!! The next best thing to beating Pete Carroll? Beat on the sickly ugly looking branches of his coaching tree. Steve Sarkisian, this is ass whpping, ass whipping, Coach Steve.

Noles -6 over The "U"

Miami may start the season 0-4. Upcoming games versus Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma are just BRUTAL!

LA Tech +14 @ Auburn

Little Dooley is going to keep this close. Poppa Dooley will be proud.

Might as well go ugly early:

South Carolina (-3.5) vs. NC State:

Spurrier needs an 8 or 9 win season or he’s probably gone. O’Brien would like a breakout season but, the pressure isn’t on yet. If the Gamecocks QB (Garcia) doesn’t have a meltdown the Ole Ball Coach may just have a chance against the “Pack”.

Wake Forest (-1.5) vs. Baylor:

The fact that the “Demon Deacons” open up in Winston-Salem may just be the difference they need to squeak this one out. Beware, however, if Baylor gets way out front early; the Deacons won’t catch’em.

Rutgers (-5.5) vs. Cincinnati:

Guess we’ll see, right out of the box, who’s for real in the “Big Least”. I’d like to see the “Knights” chop Cincin-nasty down to size.

Wax down your Spooner, put on your Ray-Bans, hop in the Woody, and head to California for Scotty B’s Surf’s Up Season Opener, a tasty all-Cali slate of Pac-10 picks.

California (-21) over Maryland

After two desultory seasons, Jeff Tedford’s Golden Bears are reloaded and rarin’ to go. Centered on RB Jahvid Best, who looks poised to repeat his astounding performance from last year, and junior QB Kevin Riley, Cal’s offense will be hard for the Terps to handle—even with the Terps’ capable linebackers. Maryland’s QB Chris Turner is experienced and RB Da’Rel Scott is fast, but they’ll be playing behind a rebuilt offensive line and facing Cal’s improved defensive line and speedy, aggressive secondary. Give the intangibles to the Golden Bears, too. They are at home; they want to avenge the upset loss the Terps handed them last year; and, they undoubtedly want to crack the Top Ten.

UCLA (-17.5) over San Diego State

Those who want someone, anyone, to challenge USC for the top slot in Pac-10 should not place their hopes on the Bruins. Led by redshirt freshman QB Kevin Prince, the Bruins’ offense is adequate at best, lacking as it does a strong ground game. What will win games—and respect—for UCLA this year is a hard-nosed defense that specializes in stopping opponents’ passing attacks. In this game, that’s just what the doctor ordered as San Diego State’s offense only dimension is in the air. Keep an eye, too, on UCLA’s kicking game. According to preseason write-ups, Bruins placekicker Kai Forbath is deadly accurate at long range.

Stanford (-16.5) over Washington State

Old-school rules say that a team that controls the line, that knocks the opponent back at the snap, will win the game. If the Cardinal’s offensive line is as powerful as reported by the press, then it should dominate the line against a wretched Wazzu defense. And, Stanford’s RB Toby Gerhart seems more than capable of exploiting any room the line wins for him. If Stanford starting QB, Andrew Luck (*another* red-shirt freshman), reported to have a strong arm and impressive mobility, can spread out the Wazzu defense with some deep passes, look for the Cardinal to build a lead early and look to its potent defensive line and solid linebacker corps to snuff out any attempted Cougar comeback.
