Week 8

Half way home and the cream is rising to the top. Prowler has hit on 8 of his last 9 as the The Chameleon hangs on by the narrowest of margins.

Two ZERO's this week are shameful. Get your heads out of your butts.

Well I guess I'll get to it and start the weekly humiliation off early:

Florida State vs. NC State (+11.5):

A few years back this would have been a no brainer; FSU 120-Wolf Pack 3 and it would be history ... I'd like to see: FSU will probably win but, I'd like to see NC State keep it close ... What'll probably happen: FSU will turn back time and turn the Wolf Pack into the Snack Pack.

Virginia Tech (+2.0) vs. Boston College:

I'd like to see: VT needs the win to stay viable in the ACC hunt so I'd like to see a win for Beemer and the boys... What'll probably happen: BC, aided by the cooler weather and home field advantage, will win with "workman" like efficiency; nothing flashy.

Duke (+5.5) vs. Miami:

I'd like to see: Duke, after their plastering by the Whoos, are now the Black-n-Blue Dads and just so Miami might let their guard down; I'd like to see the Do-Dads pull one more surprise...What'll probably happen: Miami will wake back up, get the "U" thuggery going, and kick what's left of the Do-Dads into orbit.

This week, John McCain and Barack Obama squared off in the third-and last--Presidential debate of the 2008 season. Last night, they both delivered speeches at the Al Smith Memorial Dinner in New York. These events mark the beginning of the home stretch of this election season.
Looking at the Electoral College map, it appears that many of the "battleground states" will be in Midwest. So, this week, I'll combine political and pigskin prognostication in Scotty B's Big 10 Battleground.

Ohio State v. Michigan State (+3)
The Spartans' defense, especially its line, has been stingy this year, allowing opponents to score an average of 16 points a game. If the MSU defense comes aggressively at the Buckeye's QB Terrelle Pryor as well as "Beanie" Wells, then Spartan RB Javon Ringer will have plenty of opportunities to add more yards to the already impressive 1,117 he already has.

Penn State (-24) over Michigan
This year, the Nittany Lions pack too much offensive punch and too potent of a defensive line for the young Wolverines to win at Happy Valley. Put another way, youth is no match this week for age and guile.

Illinois (-16.5) over Indiana
While its doubtful that either of these teams will contend for the Big 10 (11) championship, the Illini have played well against quality teams (and not so well against Prowler's beloved Golden Goofers). With QB Juice Williams enjoying a banner year and Indiana's defense putting in a lackluster season, this game should be an Illinois victory.
