This season's picks have been about as ugly as this season's games...only one of us is over .500...

Like Prowler alluded to; this season had been bad news. Guess I'll get the humiliation started early this week:

Georgia Tech (-4.0) vs. UVA:

The ACC again, I must be insane.

Penn State (-4.0) vs. Mich:

How good are they, we'll find out.

Navy (Pick) vs. Wake Forest:

May the Football gods give the Mids a Homecoming present; please.

After a rough week under cold, grey Midwestern skies, Scotty B is returning to a sunnier, happier place. Scotty B is “Going Back to Cali,” and selecting another all-California, all-Pac 10 slate of games.

Arizona (-8) v. UCLA

Call this one the Ying and the Yang Bowl. The Bruins have the fourth-best defense in the Pac-10 and an inconsistent offense led by inefficient QB (53%), Kevin Prince. Arizona has a dynamic conference-leading offense that produces 443 yards per game led by productive (73.9%) QB Nick Foles and featuring dangerous (8.2 yards per carry) RB Nic Grigsby as well as a defense that had a hard time containing Stanford’s balanced attack last week. I’ll give the edge to the Wildcats who are playing at home and who seem to be just hitting their stride offensively.

USC (-20) v. Oregon State

Last year, the Beavers upset the Trojans and ended USC’s hopes of a National Championship. This year, the Beavers come to LA with a respectable 4-2 record. They arrive as well with RB Jacquizz Rodgers, who averages 116 yards per game and has scored 13 touchdowns, and passing game that with 279 yards per game ranks higher than the Trojans’. The trouble for the Beavers, however, is that the Trojans defense is fourth in the nation against the run (68 yards per game) and first in the nation in sacks (26). On the offensive side of the ball, QB Matt Barkley performed well under pressure at Notre Dame, and it is difficult to believe that the Beavers’ secondary will figure out how to counter USC’s WR Damian Williams and tight-end tandem Anthony McCoy and Ronald Johnson.

California v. (+35) Washington State

After back-to-back decisive losses to USC and Oregon, the only way the Golden Bears are going to the Rose Bowl in January is if they buy tickets through Stub Hub. Cal has a good running game (no, really, they do!) that features RBs Jahvid Best and Shane Vereen, both of whom are capable of big plays. However, QB Kevin Riley needs to improve his completion rate (53%), and Cal’s defense can be downright awful. Happily for the Golden Bears, however, this week’s opponent is 1-5 Washington State. Unless the Golden Bears make a lot of mistakes, the Cougars don’t have the offense to beat them (they average eight points against Pac-10 opponents) and the defense to stop them (they give up 36 points per game to conference opponents).
